Profile

Described as “phenomenal” (The Times) and “devastatingly beautiful” (Gramophone Magazine), award-winning choir Tenebrae, under the direction of Nigel Short, is one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles renowned for its passion and precision.

Through its continued dedication to performance of the highest quality, Tenebrae’s vision is to deliver dramatic programming, flawless performances and unforgettable experiences, allowing audiences around the world to be moved by the power and intimacy of the human voice.

Brief

Tenebrae’s previous web presence had become outdated, the navigation and overall user experience was lacking, and content management was limited. The brand identity design also lacked consistency and wasn’t fully considered.

I was tasked with designing a modern, mobile-friendly website that solved these shortcomings, in addition to developing an online shop through which Tenebrae’s customers could preview and purchase individual tracks or full recordings, and/or support the group with a donation.

Solution

The bespoke online shop, a primary feature of the site, also acts as a showcase for the Tenebrae music catalog. The shop features audio previews, reviews, a dynamic shopping cart, and integrates with the News section, a third-party CDN (for secure file storage), and a payment gateway (for processing online transactions). Custom WordPress plugins were developed to provide internal reports (dynamic PDFs) for royalty and delivery purposes, to keep track of sales, and to manage individual orders, donations, and customer accounts.

I consolidated and tidied up the existing brand identity elements and incorporated these into a style guide to promote a consistent application of the brand across all digital platforms and print material.
